What is the 12-Hour Initial Security Guard Training course?

It is the Maryland initial security guard training course, approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission. It covers legal authority and its limits, observe and report, use of force and de-escalation, patrol technique, access control, incident reporting and emergency procedures. Wall2Wall issues a certificate of completion the day you finish. That certificate is not the credential itself. Certification is a separate step: the Maryland State Police issue the Security Guard Certification, and it is for someone employed by, or applying for employment with, a licensed security guard agency or a security guard employer.

How long does the training take?

The 12-Hour Initial Security Guard Training is completed in a single day, split into two sessions. The separate 8-Hour Continuing Security Training is the renewal course, required every three years, and it is not part of getting certified in the first place.

Do you offer in-person training, or only online?

Both. You can take the course live online, join one of the scheduled in-person sessions, or, if you are booking for a group, have Wall2Wall come to your location. Every option covers the same MPCTC approved curriculum and is taught by an MPCTC certified instructor.

Yes. Wall2Wall runs group sessions on site at your location for churches, schools, nonprofits, property managers and security guard agencies. The same 12-Hour Initial Security Guard Training delivered live online is delivered in person, so a full staff can be trained together.

Who approves your training?

Accepted Answer

The security training is approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission (MPCTC), and the instructors are certified by the MPCTC. Wall2Wall issues the certificate of completion; the Maryland State Police issue the Security Guard Certification. Separately, Wall2Wall advises on Maryland Cannabis Administration security requirements and trains security staff, but does not certify or approve anything for the MCA.
